Chief Inspector of prisons: jail violence increasing

The chief inspector of prisons has told Channel 4 News that despite the recruitment of hundreds more prison officers, violence in jails is increasing, His report on one prison in Dorset found the drug spice was now cheaper than cigarettes and fuelling very high levels of violence.

Portland prison’s Independent Monitoring Board today said it could not “satisfy itself as to the humane and just treatment” of those held in custody there.
