David Cameron said he was returning to the front benches because he “believes in public service” – as he began his first day in office as Foreign Secretary, the most surprising appointment in the Prime Minister’s widespread Government reshuffle.
Of Rishi Sunak’s three top ministers, only Jeremy Hunt kept the job he had when he woke up this morning.
Other cabinet posts were also filled with new or reshuffled faces – with Victoria Atkins now the Health Secretary, moving Steve Barclay to Environment Secretary, and Laura Trott taking over as Chief Secretary to the Treasury.
