Expenses watchdog IPSA will cost a fortune – anyone for YouTube?

So IPSA will cost a small fortune!

I wonder if anyone is wishing they’d gone for the daily allowance solution that Gordon Brown famously announced on YouTube in April last year and which crashed in flames?

If you get people in to check thousands upon thousands of receipts it costs a lot of money.

Like many large companies and public bodies, Gordon Brown thought Parliament should operate by a daily allowance – if you spend more, hard cheese; if you spend less and slum it, you can pocket what will probably be a very small difference.

But MPs thought the country wouldn’t swallow it and Gordon Brown didn’t have the authority to lay down the law – even if he wasn’t happy acknowledging that, as you can see in this interview given after the plans were rejected by MPs on 30 April 2009.
