Brazil’s health system ‘bedlam’ as daily Covid deaths reach record high amid variants fear

To Brazil now, where a record number of Covid deaths – more than 3,700 – were reported yesterday, leaving large parts of its health system now close to collapse.

Brazil’s total death toll is now only second to the United States.

Add to this a political crisis which has led Covid-denying President Jair Bolsonaro to carry out his most dramatic cabinet reshuffle since taking power.

But Brazil’s political failings in treating Covid could become a problem for all of us if the country keeps producing new variants.
