Brazil’s Bolsonaro tests positive for coronavirus after months of downplaying risks

He’s downplayed the risks of coronavirus for months – but today the Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro announced he had tested positive for the disease.

The 65-year-old far-right leader told reporters outside his residence there was “no reason for fear” – declaring “life goes on”.

He has been widely criticised for his handling of the crisis – with many blaming his cavalier approach for the country’s soaring number of deaths.
