Boris Johnson holds emergency Cobra meeting after Channel deaths

In response to the tragic deaths in the English Channel, the prime minister held an emergency meeting of the Cobra committee in Whitehall and described his shock and sadness at the loss of life.

The MP for Dover, Natalie Elphicke, said the deaths “underline why saving lives at sea starts by stopping the boats entering the water in the first place”.
