Blind Ethiopian teen defies odds as she strives to compete in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics

Now being poor and blind is tough in Ethiopia. Disabled people often face discrimination  as well as huge challenges in their daily lives.

But Yayesh, an 18-year-old blind athlete, is defying the odds – and is determined to make it to the Paralympic Games in Tokyo this summer.

She’s one of Ethiopia’s disabled athletes who are striving to win medals even though they come from poor families, have no sponsors and lack training facilities.
