Lorry ploughs into Berlin Christmas market crowd

German police have confirmed that nine people have died and up to 50 are injured after an articulated lorry drove into a crowded Christmas market, near Berlin’s Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.

German media said police on the ground were saying first indications were that the incident was an attack.

Footage from the German capital showed the truck standing amid debris by small wooden stalls that make up the “Christkindlmarkt”, of which there are several in Berlin at this time of year.
