Belarus opposition leader Maria Kalesnikava jailed

In Belarus, one of the leaders of mass street protests against President Alexander Lukashenko has been sentenced to 11 years in prison, charged with extremism and trying to seize power illegally.

Maria Kalesnikava became one of the iconic faces of the opposition movement during the presidential election last year. Britain and the EU have denounced the verdict.
