US and Nato agree over Afghanistan

Source PA News

Updated on 29 September 2009

President Barack Obama and Nato Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen have stressed winning the war in Afghanistan would require a "team" effort which prioritised strategy over resources.

After a meeting at the White House, Mr Rasmussen said he agreed with the US president's approach, adding "the first thing is not numbers".

It comes after a report by US and Nato commander General Stanley McChrystal which, among other recommendations, called for more combat troops to be deployed to the region.
