Unemployment 'will continue rising'

Employment levels will continue to fall in the coming weeks because of a "sharp" reduction in the public sector, a new report has predicted.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development said the reduction will have a disproportionate effect on women as they made up a higher proportion of the public sector workforce.

A study by the CIPD compared employment in the UK with the United States, where jobs are set to increase this year.
