Afghan rivals both claim victory
Updated on 21 August 2009
Both incumbent President Hamid Karzai and his rival Dr Abdullah Abdullah claim they have enough votes to win the Afghanistan election.
Official results are not expected until the weekend and Mr Karzai's level of support may be determined by the Pashtun in the south and east of the country.
Meanwhile Dr Abdullah claims initial results show he has more than half of the vote but low turnout in the south increases the chances of a second vote in six weeks.
