Berlusconi: carry on camping

By Keme Nzerem

Updated on 08 April 2009

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi angers earthquake victims by reportedly saying that those made homeless should think of themselves as being on a "camping weekend".

The number of people killed by Monday's quake has risen to 260 and more emergency tent cities are being set up to house thousands of people unable to return to their homes.

And while efforts by teams of experts to assess the damage continue to be hampered by aftershocks, it appears even a hospital designed to be earthquake-proof has been severely damaged.
