Is your broadband fast enough?

By Channel 4 News

Updated on 29 January 2009

Test the speed of your internet connection and share your results with Channel 4 News.

Checking your connection

There are many companies that offer online speed checks to test your connection speed. Here are three that we've used:

speedtest.net
zdnet.co.uk/speedtest
broadband-expert.co.uk/broadband/speedtest

They will typically give you an upload and a download connection speed result.

Note: 1,000 kb/s, Kilobits per second = 1 Mb/s, Megabit per second.

Many UK internet users are getting much slower internet than they pay for, the communications watchdog Ofcom has found. How do you compare?

Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second (or kilobits per second; 1Mbps is approximately 1000Kbps).

The bigger the number, the faster your internet should be.
