Afghan President Hamid Karzai has admitted for the first time that he has held talks directly with Taliban insurgents about them laying down their weapons.

Mr Karzai said foreign fighters were not welcome in his country and should be "kicked out", but Afghan members of the Taliban should be engaged.

Mr Karzai's comments came on the day a suicide bomber killed six people, including a police officer, near the Afghan parliament in Kabul.
