Are Afghanistan's elections a success?

President Karzai hails today's elections a success, despite a patchy turnout and some violence across the country. Nick Paton Walsh reports.

Speaking in Kabul, the president said there had been dozens of attacks across Afghanistan.

In Helmand province a British Chinook helicopter was deliberately destroyed by a coalition airstrike after making an emergency landing.

The MoD said it may have been hit by enemy fire. But as Channel 4 News reports from Kabul, intimidation and violence notwithstanding, some Afghans were still determined to have their vote.
