Live blog: Big Society launch

By Channel 4 News

Updated on 19 July 2010

Prime Minister David Cameron launches the government's Big Society, announcing plans for community projects in four parts of the country, funded by cash sitting in dormant bank accounts.

Speaking in Liverpool, one of the four areas set to benefit from the programme, Mr Cameron will appoint teams of civil servants led by expert organisers who will oversee the launch of a string of "people power" iniatives - which provided the cornerstone of the Conservative's general election campaign.

Channel 4 News live blogs the launch of the Big Society, which has been billed by Mr Cameron as "the biggest, most dramatic redistribution of power".
