Brown defends position
Updated on 23 November 2007
Gordon Brown rejected an attack from five former military chiefs for under funding the armed forces and treating the military with contempt.
Speaking at the commonwealth heads of government meeting in Uganda the prime minister said the government had given the army generous spending increases.
His comments came after the man who led the armed forces into Iraq, Admiral Lord Boyce, led an attack on Gordon Brown and the defence secretary in a House of Lords debate last night.
