Brown agrees to TV election debate

The prime minister agrees to a series of televised debates with rival party leaders in the run-up to the general election. Julian Rush reports.
So the stage is set for Britain to get a series of American-style debates, after Gordon Brown's change of heart revealed in an open letter on the Number 10 website.
In the letter, the prime minister said he relished the opportunity to make his case directly to the British people.
The prime minister said he believed there should be "a wide ranging series of television and radio debates with party leaders" during the next general election campaign.
"I relish the opportunity of making our case directly to the people of this country," he wrote.
Mr Cameron and the Liberal Democrats leader Nick Clegg have already said they are ready to take part.
