MP expense system to be reviewed
Updated on 23 March 2009
Gordon Brown supports an inquiry into the whole system of MPs expenses, following a complaint over Tony McNulty's £60,000 claim for a second home.
The Committee on Standards in Public Life has tonight agreed to hold a wide ranging inquiry, after a complaint over a senior minister who claimed £60,000 in expenses for his parents' home.
Employment minister Tony McNulty claimed the allowance for a house where his parents live in North London, just a few miles from his other home.
He insists he has not broken any rules, although said he had always felt uncomfortable about the claims, which he has now stopped.
