Apple services restored after three-hour outage

Apple says its App Store, Apple Music, iTunes Store and some other services are back online after they went down for several hours.

The company did not provide details, but said only some users had been affected.

Earlier, a statement on the tech giant’s website said: “We are investigating and will update the status as more information becomes available.”

At least 10 of the company’s services were disrupted, including Apple TV, iBooks Store, Beats 1, Radio and OS X Software Update. They stopped working shortly after 2.30pm UK time.

Checks by Reuters on several Apple sites in Asia, Europe and North and South America all showed issues with the services.

A number of tech blogs have been speculating that the disruption to the service was caused by excess traffic associated with the announcement of MTV’s 2015 Video Music Awards nominees made exclusively on Apple’s Beats1 music service, but this was not confimed.

The last time Apple services were similarly affected was in March of this year, when iTunes and the App Store came back online after a 12-hour outage.

Frustrated Apple customers took to Twitter to vent their frustration.

Is the iTunes store down for anyone else or just me? #iTunes #AppleMusic
