App U-turn: As England abandons developing own contact-tracing app for Google-Apple model

It was supposed to be the high-tech key to tracking the progress of coronavirus in England and helping to unlock society.

But after months of questions over privacy and whether the technology would work the government has abandoned its own contact-tracing app.

Instead, the version developed by Apple and Google is to be used but that too has problems.

So is it a failure of technology, or of government strategy?
