Andrew Mitchell on Saudi trip: ‘It was not an easy visit’

British interest in Saudi Arabia is well documented; earlier this year, Theresa May agreed a £65 billion trade and investment target with the Kingdom’s Crown Prince.

And political links are strong too. Our Fact Check team has been going through the Register of Members Interests and found that Saudi Arabia is spending hundreds of thousands of pounds paying for British MPs to visit.

At least 33 have been on paid trips to the Kingdom, since Saudi troops entered Yemen in 2015.

Among them, the former International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell. He joins us from his constituency of Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands.
