Algeria fires: Dozens killed as wildfires hit Mediterranean region

Social Affairs Editor and Presenter

At least 65 people have been killed by forest fires raging through northern Algeria.

It’s the latest region in the Mediterranean to be hit, with parts of Greece, Turkey, Italy and Tunisia ravaged by wildfires in the last few weeks and dozens more lives lost.

While scientists blame climate change, Algeria’s government claims arsonists are responsible.

The fires have been burning east of the capital, Algiers, in the Kabyle region.
