Albanian government under pressure to give wild river protection from hydroelectric dams

The Vjosa is one of the last major free flowing rivers in Europe – an unspoilt wilderness that can’t be found anywhere else on the continent. For years, the region has been threatened by some 30 hydro-electric dams which would change the area forever. Campaigners say the government now has a historic opportunity to give the river system full protection.
