Afghanistan: Taliban edging closer to capital after capturing more territory

Four more Afghan provincial capitals have fallen into Taliban hands today.

The Taliban’s sweep through the south, on top of gains in the north and west, means that they now control more than two thirds of the country.

Among the latest rebel gains is the city of Lashkar Gah in Helmand, where so many British and American soldiers fought and died.

Now, Taliban forces are marching ever closer to the capital Kabul.
