A&E visits in England fall by 57 per cent to record low during coronavirus peak

Hospital accident and emergency departments usually make headlines when they have unacceptable waiting times and are packed with patients.

But now the opposite is true.

Figures for April reveal that the number of people going into A&Es in English hospitals have more than halved, raising concerns about the “collateral damage” from the virus as people who need medical help are too scared to seek it.
