Tonight, in the latest in our series of reports on the last rebel-held stronghold in Syria, we investigate what appears to be a disturbing pattern of attacks on farmers and their crops, with evidence that fields are being bombed, setting vital agricultural land ablaze.
And farmers claim that shipments of grain are also being targeted by the Assad regime and its allies, effectively starving people trapped inside the besieged area.
The latest from Idlib
The latest bombing campaign in Syria’s embattled Idlib province has now been going on for 74 days – a bombing campaign which has already left 600 civilians dead, with reports of at least ten people killed just today.
At the same time, attacks against medical facilities and civilian infrastructure continue unabated – with Russian and Syrian regime war planes destroying one White Helmets centre and two hospitals.
Last night the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the airstrikes, describing the attacks as violations of international law.
