The Lowdown
- Val d'Isere has hosted more than 100 World Cup races since the series began in 1967
- The resort is rich in skiing history, producing some of the great champions of the past 40 years, including Jean-Claude Killy and the Goiitschel sisters, all Olympic gold medal winners
- Past winners of the event include Franz Klammer, Ingemar Stenmark, Pirmin Zurbriggen or Marc Giardelli
- The course, one of the classics of the downhill season, is renowned for being fast and difficult, with often as many as a third of competitors crashing out
- The resort is famous for hosting the 1992 Winter Olympics
