Franz Klammer won the resort's first World Cup downhill in 1973
The Planai downhill course is renowned for its wonderful atmosphere and World Cup races often attract 50,000 fans
The resort co-hosted the 1982 FIS World Championships
The resort is now famous for its night slalom event. Held on the lower parts of the downhill course it has been a World Cup event since 1997, with Alberto Tomba winning it for the first two seasons
The most amazing race ever seen in Schladming was the 1999 World Cup slalom. After clocking only the 26th fastest time on the first run, Austrian Ben Raich pulled out an amazing final run to win the event
