  • A huge crowd of 20,000 came to watch the resort's first ever FIS event in 1980, building on the success of the Lake Placid Olympics
  • In the first ever World Cup downhill, local Canadian favourite Ken Read could only finish eighth, conceding the overall downhill title to Switzerland's Peter Mueller
  • Lake Louise is one of Canada's largest ski resorts with runs across three mountains
  • Unusually, the resort often holds two women's World Cup downhills per season
