The Lowdown
- Together with Maribor, Kranjska Gora is one of Slovenia's two World Cup venues, being home to both the Pokal Vitranc slalom course and the Planica World Cup ski jump
- Over 1.5 million Slovenians ski - more than half the population
- Slovenia has a great tradition of slalom racers beginning with Juri Franco, winner of the giant slalom bronze medal at the 1984 winter Olympics, and Rok Petrovic, who dominated the World Cup circuit in the 1980s
- The resort, to the far northwest of Slovenia, was a great favourite with skiing legend Alberto Tomba. He dominated slalom and giant slalom here in the 1990s, winning five World Cup titles
- The tree-lined Pokal Vitranc slalom course is among the most beautiful World Cup venues, with a maximum gradient of 47 per cent
