The Lowdown
- Kitzbuhel's Streif course is one of the most dangerous races on the World Cup tour. At its steepest, in the Mausefelle (Mousetrap) section, the gradient is 85 per cent and skiers hit speeds of 130kmh, travelling 70-80m off the biggest jumps
- Since the World Cup series was founded in 1967, Kitzbuhel has held a race every year except 1988 and 1993
- For even the best skiers in the world, the course is the ultimate challenge. Downhill legends Jean-Claude Killy, Franz Klammer, Hermann Maier and Stephan Eberharter are all past winners
- Like Monaco on the Formula One circuit, Kitzbuhel is unique. On race weekends 70,000 people pack into the medieval town centre, while the nearby Rasmusleitn finish area is a sea of red and white Austrian flags
- After racing ends, the Streif course is an open-piste, giving you the perfect chance to try your luck. The record time is 1min 41 secs, but you'll be lucky, even as a proficient skier, to make it down in under ten minutes. It's that hard
