The Lowdown
  • The resort has a long history of competitive skiing, hosting the Winter Olympics in 1956
  • The Olympic downhill course is one of the fastest on the World Cup circuit, with racers hitting speeds of 135kmh
  • Cortina is one of Italy's top ski destinations and alongside St Moritz and Gstaad is one of the most exclusive resorts in the world
  • Ski jumping has long been popular in the resort and the Italia Ski Jump was built for the seventh winter games in 1955. It replaced a wooden ski jump, which had been in use on the hill since the 1930s
  • The resort contains Italy's only Olympic bobtrack
