FINLAY MICKEL
Finlay Mickel, 29 is Britain’s No.1 downhill skier. Born and bred in Edinburgh, Finlay started his skiing on the Scottish slopes.
Although Finlay has won big races in the past (the German Super G title in 2003 and the 2004 French Super G title) it was the 2005/2006 season that saw a transformation in his skiing. He went from scoring no points in the 2003/04 World Cup to recieving points in six races out of seven.
He finished 11th in the World Championships downhill in Bormio in 2005. This was the best result by a British man in the history of the World Championships, and the best in any major competition since Martin Bell finished eighth in the same event at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.
In the Olympic Games in Turin in 2006 he finished 25th in the downhill event and 22nd in the super G event.
