GAMES

You can play a selection of Winter Sports games on Channel 4 World Cup Skiing.

Canadian Snowboarding
Aggressive Skiing
Downhill deathrace. "If you love arcade games like Dolphin Dash you will enjoy the hell out of this", claims the introduction - the graphics may not be as potentially epilepsy-inducing, but the idea is almost as demented, as the not-especially safe sport of skiing has been enlivened by spectators taking potshots at the participants.

Ski Stunt Simulator
Downhill downfall. "All the fun of falling down a ski slope", chuckles Dobsky, "without having to get cold and dead". In fact, the game it reminded us of was BMX Backflips - but on ice: you control a skier zooming down a slope, and the idea is to make the jumps (and do the stunts) without falling off.

Hockey Showdown
Speed skating. "Relive the US vs Canadian rivalry in this awesome 3 on 3 hockey game", instructs the author of this all-action adaptation of the icy Olympic sport, which (once again according to the author) features "all major hockey rules, solid AI, and dazzling graphics".

Puppy Curling
Canine challenge. "A quick fun game and quite easy to do!", recommends Vicci - and if you (and an optional friend) want to recreate the Olympic gold-winning performance of the Scottish women's curling team, but with some dogs on a polished floor, this could be one of your few opportunities.

Canadian Snowboarding
Downhill racer. You'd expect Canadians to know a thing or two about snowboarding action, and this is a competent, no-frills recreation of the sport - more like "Amped" than "SSX Tricky", though without all those clever 3D graphics. Half the game is trying to slalom inbetween trees which have handily grown in pairs halfway down the mountainside, then you get a chance to perform tricks on all the steeper sections (tail grab! back flip! 360!).

"The first European downhill of the season always creates a special atmosphere... this season's honour fell to the Italian resort of Val Gardena"
