Nick has been actively involved in the world of skiing since 1976. He joined the Telford Ski club and began race training at the local dry ski slope on a regular basis. His first awards to the Guinness School of Sport gave him an opportunity to see a future in ski racing.

"I knew I was never going to be an Olympic Champion but international ski racing and the British team was my goal. I had started too late to be the best, but the travel and experiences around the world and the chance to train with the best was too good an opportunity to miss out on."

After competing on the European tour and gaining good results at the British Championships Nick was selected the 1983 British Alpine Ski team. He also continued to study and qualified with the British Association of Ski Instructors passing his grade 1 ISIA exam in 1985 with a double merit. Nick remained part of the British ski team from 1982/83 season through to 1989, racing in Europe, North America and collecting two national titles and a string of international accolades along the way however injury got in the way of further success.

"I had hoped to keep racing for many more years however this was not possible because of a recurring back injury. Sadly I had to quit the Olympic team of 1998 after an attempt to come back from my injury lasted only a matter of weeks."

Fortunately Nick received great support from his sponsors Eurosport who gave him the chance to learn about the ski industry and the booming television industry surrounding it. Ski Sunday and Sky Sports were promoting the sport with good results and there seemed to be a real demand for televised ski racing.

"After some bad business experiences I was given a chance at Sky as a co commentator. The screen test was scary but I must have been okay as from 1989 I began my co commentating and presenting career, which was as equally exciting and nerve racking as my skiing career!"
