Chevanton facing the knife

Monaco striker Ernesto Chevanton looks increasingly certain to face an operation on his knee.

The Uruguay international has been carrying an injury since the summer and was again absent from the team-sheet as the principality outfit 2-1 lost away to Marseille yesterday.

He has made just six starts this season and consulted a specialist in Italy last week, with club officials growing increasingly concerned by his fragility.

Having paid Lecce £6.9m for his services in June 2004, they are worried they will never see value for their money and surgery appears to be becoming inevitable.
