Robert fears for Pompey future

Sunday 27 November, 2005

Frenchman Laurent Robert believes his Portsmouth days could be numbered following the sacking of Coach Alain Perrin.

Perrin, who formerly coached Marseille and Troyes, signed Robert in the summer but neither have made a positive impact on the South Coast. "I came here because of Alain but some players said bad things about him,” Robert said. “It made Alain's job very difficult."

The former Newcastle winger was left out of the Pompey squad for Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by Chelsea. "I don't know why I was not in the squad,” he continued. “You'll have to ask chairman [Milan] Mandaric.

"It seems that when we play badly or lose it is my fault. I have been made a scapegoat because we have not been winning enough games."

He added: "There are people at this club who are trying to get me out."

Pompey's caretaker boss Joe Jordan insists he picked the team he believed was capable of getting a result against Chelsea.

But Robert said: "I am not injured and I have been training with the team all week. Then on Friday, caretaker Joe Jordan tells me I am not playing and I had to train with three kids. I am very angry and upset."
