Lyon rocked by double injury

Sunday 27 November, 2005

Lyon players Lamine Diatta and Jérémy Berthod both went off injured during Saturday’s game with Nice, sparking fears of a defensive injury crisis at the Stade Gerland.

The champions have already lost Eric Abidal for several months to injury, and are now set to be without two other defenders.

Diatta has the most serious injury, although a scan on Saturday night revealed that he did not suffer a fracture in a 28th-minute challenge at the Stade du Ray.

Diatta, who can play right-back or centre-half, will undergo further scans on his injured leg to confirm the nature of the injury.

Meanwhile, France Under-21 left-back Berthod limped off with a thigh injury in the 53rd minute.

Lyon once again had to come from behind at Nice, sealing a 1-1 draw to extend their unbeaten run this season to 22 games in all competitions.
