Mexès: “The worst is behind me.”

Saturday 19 November, 2005

Defender Philippe Mexès has revealed the full extent of a disastrous 2004-05 season and claims he is concentrating on the future with Italian club Roma and perhaps Le Bleus…

The 23-year-old, who joined Roma from Auxerre last season and was suspended after the Ligue 1 side opposed the legality of the transfer, says Fabio Capello’s departure for Juventus was the first bad sign.

“The entire 2004-05 season was a disaster,” he said.

“I met Capello and he spoke to me about the club, the facilities etc. Then the next day he signed on at Juventus. Not the best attitude for a Coach…

“Then there was my suspension, Roma’s poor results… I just tried to keep my head down. I didn’t want my family and friends to worry so I hid my pain.

“Now I’m happy, for my family and the club. Everything is going better.

“I hope it will last and we can stop taking about the ‘Mexès affair’. I just want to put it all behind me.”

Mexès’ Roma side play Juventus on Saturday and the stopper is looking to continue his good form in the hope it will lead to a berth in France’s World Cup squad for Germany 2006.

“My priority is Roma and playing well for them is the only way I’ll get back in the France team.

“[If you see France Coach Raymond Domenech] say hello from me and tell him I’m still alive.”
