Rennes striker Alexander Frei says it will take him a long time to get over the ugly scenes that marred Switzerland's World Cup play-off win in Turkey.
The Swiss qualified for Germany on away goals after losing 4-2 in Istanbul on Wednesday, but as soon as the game was over it is alleged that Turkish players and security staff attacked the visitors.
"I'm shocked and I will remain shocked for quite a few weeks," declared Frei. "We had to wait one-and-a-half hours in the dressing-room before it was safe to leave the stadium.
"I won't say anything about what happened in the changing-rooms, but although people say I'm slow, I can tell you I ran 250 metres in six seconds to get off the pitch.
"When the referee whistled the end of the match, I said 'super'. Then I saw [Philippe] Senderos running and wondered what was going on. So I started running too.
"We celebrated our qualification back at the hotel but there was a player missing," he added, referring to Stéphan Grichting, who was hospitalised after being kicked in the abdomen.
FIFA have promised to investigate the incidents, but Frei refused to be drawn on what he feels would be an adequate punishment.
"That's not for me to judge," he stated. "I'll leave that to others. But I've got a lot of Turkish friends in Switzerland and they're very warm and kind people. I've got nothing against Turkey."
Last season's top scorer in Ligue 1 was accused by the Turks of inflaming the situation by insulting Coach Fatih Terim during the first leg (2-0), however he vehemently denies those allegations.
"I heard that. On one occasion they said I insulted him and on the other that I attacked him," explained Frei. "But if I had really done all that, surely someone would have seen it. It's false, that's all."
