Out-of-form Bordeaux star Marouane Chamakh claims he isn't too worried by a form slump which has seen him lose his place in Ricardo’s starting XI.
The skilful Moroccan international made a great start to the current campaign with three goals in the opening eight games, but has since run dry and seen his place taken by Ligue 1 journeyman Lilian Laslandes.
“I know I’m going through a rough patch,” said the 21-year-old.
“It’s tough but I’m not worried. I know I’m too selfless in front of goal (20 goals in 80 League appearances) but this is my fourth season in Ligue 1 and I’m improving little by little.
“The important thing is not me, but the team.”
Currently practising Ramadan, Chamakh is not at his physical peak and is also getting over his country’s failed World Cup campaign.
“I’ve got to be careful with him at the moment,” admitted Bordeaux’s Brazilian Coach Ricardo.
“He’s not in great shape and I’d be taking a risk asking him to play a whole match I don’t want to see him injured.
“But he needn't worry too much, there’s no set hierarchy for the striking partnerships and no pairing is superior to another.”
Yet Chamakh’s fellow striker Jean-Claude Darcheville is less diplomatic regarding his preferences in attack.
“When I play with Marouane we each do our own thing,” claimed the barrel-chested Darcheville.
“We can’t seem to play together and we need to continue to work hard to improve our playing relationship.
“Lillian is a more intelligent player, more experienced.”
