Bernard Casoni's Bastia missed the opportunity to go top of Ligue 2 on Monday after drawing Le Havre 2-2.

Victory would have taken the Corsicans to the summit following the 1-1 stalemate played out between leaders Valenciennes and Sedan the previous day, but in the end Bastia were grateful to take anything away from the match at all. They trailed twice to the midtable side – for whom Kandia Traoré netted his 10th strike this term – but a Christophe Meslin double rescued them a point as the rain poured down.

They now lie two points behind the top two teams, whose headline clash proved to be just as tight an encounter as might have been expected. Neither side ever got to grips with the difficult conditions and poor pitch, but it was Sedan who took an early lead when Markus Mokaké fired in on 10 minutes. Valenciennes drew level on the half-hour mark thanks to Laurent Dufresne, though, and they stay first on goal difference – although Sedan have a game in hand.

Elsewhere, fourth-placed Lorient could do no better than a 1-1 draw away to Amiens and fifth-placed Créteil also wasted the chance to make up ground on the leaders. They suffered their first home defeat of the season at the hands of Dijon (1-2), the team with the best away record in the division.

At the wrong end of the table, bottom-club Sète succumbed to a 2-0 loss away to Laval, in which Laval striker Mauricio struck his 99th and 100th goals in Ligue 2. 18th-placed Guingamp fared slightly better, meanwhile, picking up their first home victory at the expense of Clermont (3-1). Montpellier also helped their own cause with a 3-1 triumph over Gueugnon, who they leapfrogged in the table by climbing up to 15th.
