Ligue 2 leaders Sedan successfully defended their top spot in Ligue 2 for the first time this weekend thanks to a 2-0 win over Le Havre.
Sedan have shaped up as serious promotion candidates and slid into first place thanks to last week’s 2-0 win over Montpellier. Against Le Havre – themselves undefeated in six games – the result was put beyond question thanks to first-half strikes from Boutabout and Sabin, and saw the Wild Boars move to 24 points, two ahead of second-placed Créteil, but with a match in hand.
Créteil, from Paris’ eastern suburbs, returned to winning ways after a disastrous month. Two losses and a draw had suggested the early season leader was on the wane, however, Friday’s 3-1 home win over Laval (19th) has returned some much-needed confidence to the club.
In third place, Corsican side Bastia were pushed to the limit by fourth-placed Lotient before claiming a late draw thanks to Andre’s strike in the final 15 minutes. The travelling Brittany outfit had gone ahead through Merlu Barry after 25 minutes.
Level on 19 points with Lorient are Châteauroux and Valenciennes who both recorded victories, against Sète 1-0 and Clermont 3-0 respectively.
Montpellier, who were unlucky last week against Sedan, made up for that defeat by climbing off the foot of the table with a 3-1 win on Friday over Istres.
In the weekend’s other results, Caen draw 1-1 with Grenoble, Amiens and Reims couldn’t be sperated 0-0 and Gueugnon held Dijon by the same scoreline.
In Week 12's final game, Brest defeated Guingamp 2-1 in a Brittany derby match. The result confirms Guingamp’s new-found status as the bottom club in Ligue 2, while Brest climb from 15th to 10th.
