Amiens are the early leaders in Ligue 2 after they thrashed Grenoble on Friday to bring in the new season in fine fashion.

Dia, Casartelli and DeFreitas were all on target as Amiens secured a 3-0 victory – enough to put them on top of the table for the moment at least.

The three sides relegated from Ligue 1 last season made mixed starts. Caen were beaten 3-2 at Créteil, while Bastia drew 1-1 at Châteauroux. Istres were on the only one of the three to register a win, as Goussé’s goal nine minutes from time was enough to down Laval.

Elsewhere, Sète, promoted from the National last term, secured a goalless draw at Clermont, while another Ligue 2 new boy Valenciennes claimed a 2-1 win over Dijon.

Guingamp and Sedan both start the season with high hopes for promotion, but they had to settle for a point apiece after drawing 1-1.

The next round of matches in Ligue 2 get underway this Wednesday, as Lorient host Laval, though the bulk of the matches take place on Friday.
