Nantes’ indifferent recent form continued on Saturday when they conceded an injury-time goal at Troyes to suffer their second defeat of the season.
After winning their opening two matches, Nantes seemed to be on the up under Serge Le Dizet, but they have picked up just two points in four matches since then, and concerns that they could be in for another relegation dogfight are starting to surface.
Troyes once again ground out a positive result, although their supporters had to wait until the 93rd minute to see Sébastien Grax break the deadlock.
The striker, on loan from Monaco, owed much to substitute Ziad Jaziri, who dribbled round three Nantes defenders before laying on a perfect pass for his teammate to score.
The first chance of a tight game had come after 33 minutes, as Frédéric Da Rocha headed David Leray’s cross goalwards, but Ronan Le Crom was equal to it in the Troyes goal.
Alexandre Dujeux then tested Nantes ‘keeper Mickael Landreau from a free kick moments later, before, on the stroke of half-time, Grax squandered a good opportunity by shooting wide.
Recent Nantes signing Jean-Jacques Pierre struck the outside of the Troyes post with a header on 55 minutes, but neither side created another chance in the remainder of the second half. Until Jaziri’s last-gasp inspiration set up Grax, that is.
