Neither Troyes nor Metz could get the three points they were hoping for to lift them out of the relegation mire.
Troyes, who are 17th, were at home and will be particularly disappointed as their slide down the table continues. Metz on the other hand will draw encouragement from the fact they extended their unbeaten run to three matches.
Benjamin Nivet and Sébastien Grax both had speculative efforts for Troyes early on, but the visitors had the best chance of the first half, Hervé Tum seeing his fierce volley pushed out by Ronan Le Crom.
Metz striker Tum was particularly lively and the Cameroonian ace posed plenty of problems to the home side after the break.
However, Troyes finished the game on top, and Alexandre Dujeux (70) puis Blaise Matuidi (72) both squandered chances to break the stalemate.
Former Troyes player Medhi Méniri then glanced a header just wide of the goal, as Metz came within a whisker of claiming their second win of the campaign.
