A last-gasp goal from Jérémy Mathieu handed Toulouse three points in their relegation scrap with Troyes.
Troyes started the better of the two sides, pinging the ball around with impressive speed and accuracy. Toulouse were still trying to get in the game when the visitors took the lead on seven minutes. A flowing move involving Gharib Amzine and Benjamin Nivet culminated with Sébastien Grax forcing home his fifth goal of the season.
The home side reacted eventually, with Achille Emana and Jérémy Mathieu starting to assert their influence in midfield. Crucially they drew level on the stroke of half-time, Laurent Batlles cutting the ball across goal for Bryan Bergougnoux to turn it home with a delightful backheel.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first. Troyes were on top in the early stages, but rather than scoring, Grax rifled a good chance over the crossbar six minutes in. Toulouse were soon pressing for a winner however, and Mathieu was only denied by a fine stop from Ronan Le Crom. Santos then miscued his shot after being played clean through with only the ‘keeper to beat.
Former Sochaux midfielder Mathieu eventually had the final say as he netted a win for the home team in the dying seconds. From Thibault Giresse’s corner, Mathieu reacted quickest to slot the ball home and offer Toulouse a much-needed victory.
