Ligue 1 newcomers Le Mans continue to equip themselves well in the top flight, claiming their third win in four matches at Toulouse on Saturday.
Les Violets, who have not won since their success over Sochaux in Week 1, have a lot of soul-searching to do after a dreadful performance in front of their discouraged supporters.
Chiguy Lucau gave Le Mans the perfect start when he opened the scoring on 12 minutes, before a resolute display was wrapped up by Yohan Hautcoeur’s late goal. Lucau’s strike came about thanks to some superb wing play from Laurent Bonnart. The Le Mans skipper raced past Daniel Congré on the left and delivered an inviting low cross for Lucau to ram home at the near post.
Laurent Batlles received a fantastic ovation from the Toulouse supporters as he made his first appearance in his second spell at the club following his transfer from Marseille. The midfielder almost set up an equalising goal when his long pass released Santos through the middle, but the Tunisian had his shot saved by Yohann Pelé.
Daniel Moreira and Bryan Bergougnoux did their best to get the goal Toulouse needed after the break, but Le Mans eventually doubled their lead on 85 minutes with a superb counterattack. James Fanchone raced upfield and slipped Hautcoeur through with a delightful pass and he duly crashed a shot past Christophe Révault.
